The best thing about summer is the light. Photographers often talk of the ‘golden hour’, sometime around dusk. The light is fantastic, producing some equally fantastic pictures. I’m just a firm believer in a nice day. Make the most of the sun, whatever time of the day it is!
This time of year, the light lends itself perfectly to outdoor portraits. There’s a ‘sweet spot’ in the run up to sunset, that’s maybe only 30 minutes or so long. Every day is different. The effects it can produce, especially in and around Portsmouth, can be stunning. I’m using a simple, one light, Alien Bee setup in the below pictures. Partnered with the battery pack, it’s an elegant lighting solution for location work. Truly portable, with fantastic results!
